Overview
As global electric vehicle (EV) adoption accelerates, commercial EV charging operators, factory facility managers, highway service hub developers, and municipal utility networks are rapidly expanding their charging infrastructure. Modern high-power charging hubs can replenish a vehicle battery in 20 to 40 minutes. To deliver a premium user experience and build customer loyalty, forward-thinking operators are building dedicated, climate-controlled charging rest areas and driver lounges adjacent to their charging plazas.
However, operating these rest areas introduces a critical security paradox. Most EV charging hubs are completely unattended, frequently situated in remote, unmonitored locations, or placed along exposed factory perimeters and commercial parking corridors. An open or poorly secured rest lounge quickly becomes a magnet for non-charging loiterers, unauthorized squatters, physical abuse, and destructive vandalism. Conversely, keeping the rest area locked with mechanical keys or static keypads frustrates paying drivers and creates huge administrative headaches.
CIVINTEC's wireless solutions provide reliable connectivity for EV charging rest area access control. They keep lounge entrances connected with the central management platform, even in remote locations or sites with limited network infrastructure.
Whether the charging site is located in an urban parking facility with existing network cabling or a remote highway charging station without wired connections, CIVINTEC terminals support multiple communication options for flexible and reliable deployment.
Deploy simultaneous Over-the-Air (OTA) updates across your entire network for seamless firmware and software upgrades, removing the cost and hassle of on-site maintenance.
· 4G LTE, GPS, WiFi, and LoRaWAN
· Real-time cloud remote control via HTTP/HTTPS protocol
· OTA upgrades
Manage multiple EV charging rest areas, EV drivers, and staff access permissions from a single centralized management platform. Operators can centrally control lounge access across different charging sites without managing each location separately.
Real-Time Remote Control
The cloud management platform allows operators to remotely provide temporary access permissions to EV drivers during active charging sessions. Access permissions can automatically expire when the charging session ends.
Operators can also monitor lounge entry records, review credential activity, check door status, and receive alarm notifications in real time through the cloud platform. This enables centralized security management across multiple charging sites without requiring staff to be physically present at each location.
Integrated Real-Time VoIP Audio Intercom
For drivers who experience technical difficulties, lose smartphone battery power, or require emergency assistance, CIVINTEC terminals feature an integrated VoIP audio intercom core.
Equipped with a high-fidelity internal microphone and speaker, the terminal allows the driver to press a dedicated "Call Helpdesk" prompt on the touch screen. The terminal instantly initiates a real-time voice call over the network to the operator's central dispatch center, allowing support agents to speak directly with the driver and issue a remote cloud door unlock command.
EV charging rest areas usually serve different types of users, including EV drivers, maintenance teams, cleaning staff, and technicians. Each group requires different access permissions. CIVINTEC access control terminals support multiple authentication methods on one device, allowing operators to manage access based on user roles.
Flexible Authentication for Different Users
EV Drivers: Access the lounge through dynamic QR codes generated during an active charging session. Access permissions automatically expire when the session ends.
Site Staff & Technicians: Use RFID cards, NFC/BLE mobile credentials, or PIN codes for daily access management.
Secure RFID and Mobile Credential Protection
CIVINTEC terminals support dual-frequency card readers and wireless communication technologies for secure staff authentication.
· Support MIFARE Classic, MIFARE Plus, and NXP MIFARE DESFire EV1/EV2/EV3 smart cards with 128-bit AES encryption.
· An integrated SAM (Secure Access Module) protects encryption keys inside the terminal and helps prevent credential cloning and unauthorized access.
· NFC and BLE mobile credentials enable convenient access through smartphones. Administrators can adjust access settings remotely based on different user requirements.
CIVINTEC terminals provide reliable offline access control for EV charging rest areas, allowing users to access lounges even when the network connection is unavailable.
· Offline Local Authorization
CIVINTEC access control terminals support offline local authorization to keep EV charging rest areas accessible during network interruptions. When the network connection is unavailable, the terminal automatically switches to local authorization mode and verifies access permissions stored in its internal memory.
By storing temporary credentials and authorized user lists locally, the terminal can continue controlling door access without relying on a constant connection to the cloud platform. Once the network connection is restored, access records are automatically synchronized to the cloud management system.
· Zero-Downtime Performance
If the internet goes down, the terminal continues to function autonomously, verifying credentials against its internal database without a millisecond of delay.
· Background Synchronization
Once the network connection is restored, the system initiates a silent background synchronization, pushing all buffered entry logs and timestamps to the cloud management platform to ensure your attendance and billing records remain 100% accurate.
Unattended facilities require automated safety protocols to respond immediately to fire emergencies, forced break-ins, or doors accidentally left open.
Fire Alarm Integration and Auto-Unlock Response
In the event of a fire, power loss, or emergency disaster within the charging rest area or adjacent plaza, the terminal's hardware input interface connects directly to local fire alarm control panels. Upon detecting an active fire alarm signal, the access control terminal overrides locked states instantly, unlocking physical doors automatically to ensure immediate, unhindered emergency egress for occupants.
Built-in Tamper Alarm Vandal Protection
To defeat unauthorized physical tampering or pry attacks, CIVINTEC terminals feature an internal optical tamper sensor. If an intruder attempts to wrench the terminal housing off its wall mounting plate or force open the casing, the tamper mechanism triggers instantly:
Activates an aggressive local audible alarm siren to deter the vandal.
Transmits an immediate high-priority tamper alert packet to the client's cloud platform, identifying the exact device ID, location name, and GPS coordinates so security personnel can dispatch help immediately.
Magnetic Door Sensor Monitoring (Unclosed Door Alarm)
Loiterers or vandals may attempt to prop the rest lounge door open using rocks or wedge items in the frame to bypass access rules. CIVINTEC terminals incorporate magnetic door position sensor monitoring. If the rest area door remains unclosed past a pre-configured time threshold (e.g., 15 seconds), the terminal logs a "Door Open Timeout" alarm, sounds a local reminder chime, and pushes a real-time notification to the cloud dashboard for remote management intervention.
Automatic Event Photo Snapshots
Whenever a user scans a QR code, presents a card, or triggers an alarm event (such as a pry attempt or forced door entry), the terminal's built-in camera automatically captures a photo snapshot of the individual standing before the device.
This photo log is bundled with the timestamp, credential payload, and device ID, then transmitted to the client's cloud system. These visual image logs provide unalterable, legally binding evidence for incident investigation, dispute resolution, and insurance claims.
