Overview
A welcoming library gives people the freedom to read, study, and learn at times that suit their lives. Self-service operations extend that freedom beyond staffed hours, but also place greater responsibility on entrance security. Registered readers, temporary visitors, and staff need access to specific spaces at designated times, while reader credentials and restricted areas must remain protected without staff checking every arrival.
Intelligent access control helps libraries balance easy entry with clear security boundaries. By connecting secure identification with centrally managed permissions, the system controls access according to who is entering, which areas they may use, and when their access is valid. This supports extended-hours services while allowing authorized readers to enter reading and study spaces with ease.
CIVINTEC terminals support Ethernet (PoE), Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, and LoRaWAN connectivity for flexible deployment across main libraries, campus branches, and small community reading rooms. Connected to the library' s management platform, CIVINTEC terminals bring entrance control, user permissions, and access records together for centralized supervision.
Remote Access Management:Administrators centrally manage permissions for library readers, visitors, and staff across multiple entrances. Access rights are assigned by area and time through the management platform, allowing updates to opening schedules and user permissions without configuring each terminal on site.
Real-Time Access Records: Access events are uploaded to the connected management platform, giving administrators a clear view of credential activity across library entrances. Staff review timestamps, terminal locations, and access results to investigate reported entry problems and support routine security checks.
Offline Local Operation:Network interruptions do not have to stop authorized library access. CIVINTEC terminals continue operating independently, verifying credentials against locally stored permissions and saving event logs without a continuous server connection. Once connectivity is restored, stored records automatically synchronize with the management platform.
OTA Device Upgrade:CIVINTEC access control devices support OTA remote software and firmware update on server, reducing the need for on-site maintenance. This helps library operators reduce maintenance time, lower operational costs, and extends the overall system lifecycle.
From daily reader entry to temporary visitor access, CIVINTEC brings multiple identification methods together in one terminal.
RFID Cards: Readers use compatible library cards for convenient daily entry. Support for 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz RFID technologies allows libraries to select credentials suited to their access control system.
QR Codes: Temporary readers and study room users can access via QR codes through an optional scanner. The connected management platform assigns access to designated entrances and time periods, reducing the need to issue and collect physical cards.
NFC/BLE Mobile Credentials:Readers and staff use their smartphones for entry, providing a convenient alternative to carrying a separate access card.
Facial Recognition:CIVINTEC facial recognition features built-in liveness detection to help resist photo and video spoofing while accommodating common appearance changes. Authentication in 0.015 seconds at a distance of 30–150cm makes library entry quick and convenient.
PIN Codes:Administrators can configure and issue individual, time-limited PINs through cloud software, providing temporary access to designated library areas. Access permissions expire when the authorized period ends.
Self-service library access requires protection for both user credentials and access data. CIVINTEC combines encrypted RFID authentication, SAM-based key protection, and secure server communication to strengthen security at library entrances.
Encrypted RFID Authentication:CIVINTEC supports MIFARE® DESFire® EV2/EV3 credentials with AES-128 authentication. By verifying protected card data rather than relying only on a publicly readable card number, a correctly configured system helps resist access attempts using copied card identifiers.
SAM-Based Key Protection:Supported terminals accommodate an optional Secure Access Module (SAM) to protect the cryptographic keys used in RFID authentication. With the module installed and configured, dedicated key protection adds another layer of security against key extraction and unauthorized credential duplication.
Secure Server Communication:CIVINTEC terminals support HTTPS for encrypted communication with the centralized management platform. This helps protect access records, authorization data, and remote control commands during transmission between library entrances and the server.
